Crew*NY now WX.

In an effort to better describe its membership, the industry group formerly known as CREW*NY has changed its name to WX.

"It was time to have a name that clearly reflected who we are," said Caroline Car·o·line

, current president of the organization and a partner in the real estate department of the law firm, Pillsbury Winthrop.

WX (short for Women Executives in Real Estate) was selected to reflect the members, who, in general, tend to be senior level executives in the firms where they work.

"The universe of women executives in commercial real estate has grown over the last decade and we know that WX plays an important role in supporting the careers of many of the industry's leaders," Harcourt said. "We also know that WX - like New York City New York City: see New York, city.

itself - is different from any other women's trade organization around the country, and we need to celebrate and exalt that difference. The new name expresses the essence of the organization in a fresh, direct and distinctive way."

The name change is the latest move by one of the many industry organizations in New York City. About a year ago, a group of real estate women formed a New York New York, state, United States

for forming the new group was the desire of members to be affiliated with the national CREW organization, which has 43 chapters and nearly 5,000 members in the U.S. and Toronto.

WX, which is a 14-year-old group, is not affiliated with the national organization. Industry officials admit, however, that part of the impetus for the name change was growing confusion between the two groups, and another industry group, the Association of Real Estate Women or AREW.

"There is an entire alphabet alphabet [Gr. alpha-beta, like Eng. ABC], system of writing, theoretically having a one-for-one relation between character (or letter) and phoneme (see phonetics). Few alphabets have achieved the ideal exactness.  soup of industry organizations out there, but only one that is truly geared to the highest level of women in our business in New York - WX is that organization," Harcourt said.
