Credit unions ready to offer banking services.


CREDIT unions will be able to offer members banking services from next autumn.

The Association of British Credit Unions Ltd and the Co-operative Bank will allow some credit unions to run and promote the accounts. The bank will administer them.

The system could be rolled out nationally in 2007.

The accounts will offer a debit card debit card, card that allows the cost of goods or services that are purchased to be deducted directly from the purchaser's checking account. They can also be used at automated teller machines for withdrawing cash from the user's checking account.  for use in shops and to withdraw money from cash machines.
