Credit Suisse First Boston Annual Technology Conference Sold Out Event - Robin Williams Meets Jornada & Microsoft.SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1999-- Credit Suisse First Boston's Annual Technology Conference kicked off at the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona yesterday where over 190 company executives will be presenting to more than 1000 attendees. While Robin Williams entertained over vintage wines and attendees tinkered with Jornadas - Hewlett Packard's new palm-size PC - Microsoft and other top technology firms shared industry insights with the world's leading technology investors. Institutional investors at this conference manage more money than the value of every company in the S&P 500. The popular four-day event sold out ten days after the invitations were sent via email. Greg Maffei, CFO See Chief Financial Officer. and Senior Vice President Finance & Administration for Microsoft, the first keynote speaker yesterday, noted that the company believes PC unit growth will accelerate from already strong levels, due largely to the Internet and an anticipated proliferation of non-PC devices. Maffei demonstrated the ability of a device to show a full video clip (the "Toy Story 2" trailer). He also showcased the music and audio capabilities of a device. Mike Kwatinetz head of technology research for CSFB CSFB Credit Suisse First Boston CSFB Cyclically Shifted Filter Bank believes that devices will "extend" rather than replace the PC sector. touted two new products to watch - the new wafer inspection
system which may be released in December and the delayed ion
implanter which "could be killer once released in mid-2000"
according to CSFB research analyst, Elliot Rogers.
-- Cisco (CSCO), whose Internet telephone booths were in use at the
conference, reiterated the impact of the Internet increasingly
being used as the distribution mechanism for services (commerce,
entertainment, travel & publishing), replacing physical
distribution. There was much investor focus on Cisco's optical
strategy and wireless opportunity.
-- Nokia (NOK) confirmed that its mobile phone unit production is
expected to reach more than 260 million for the year. CSFB
reiterated its Buy rating on the stock based on the company's
optimistic outlook.
