Mr. Gibbons brings 31 years of senior bank credit, market and operational risk management expertise to his new role at Promontory. In that role, he led the rehabilitation and resolution of the largest and most complex troubled institutions in the banking system. He became a Deputy Comptroller in 1997, when he was named the agency's Chief Credit Officer and primary authority on all credit risk matters. Mr. Gibbons spent two decades in the field with the OCC, starting as an Assistant National Bank Examiner in Syracuse, N.Y., in 1977 and progressing through increasing levels of responsibility as a National Bank Examiner and Field Manager. From 1989 to 1996, he was an Examiner-in-Charge, overseeing the banking units of major Northeast and New England banks, including Chase Manhattan Corp., Fleet Financial Group, and Shawmut National Corp., during periods of turmoil in the financial services industry. He was Acting District Administrator of National Banks in the Atlanta OCC office from 1996 to 1997, overseeing supervision of 300 banking organizations across eight states.
