WHEN? Since 1999

Q: Explain a little bit about your dog.

A: When I was growing up, I became acquainted with German Shepherds because my grandparents grandparents nplabuelos mpl

lived next door and had them as pets. I got Britta, my 5-year-old, sable-colored German Shepherd, from a breeder in Deltaville, Virginia Deltaville is a small village on the eastern tip of Middlesex County in the eastern part of the U. People are intimidated by these dogs, in part because the police use them in law enforcement. But they are actually well mannered and highly intelligent, and they have a good temperament.

Q: When did you first think of bringing your dog to the office?

A: I knew that as executive director of ASCPT I'd be working much longer hours than in my previous job, so it occurred to me that I should get a dog. I talked to the staff at the time, and they thought it would be a fun diversion to have a dog at work. Before bringing Britta to the office, she completed obedience training obedience training

with a woman who specializes in training German Shepherds. I also increased my personal liability coverage in the unlikely event that she did any harm.

Now, the staff say that they love having Britta at work. The only problem we see is that we can't bring her to our annual meeting.

Q: What if someone else wants to bring a pet to the office?

A: I've talked to my staff of three. Two of them have cats and do not want to bring them to the office. Unlike dogs, cats need their own space, and they get upset if they are frequently moved.

On the other hand, Britta loves being at the office and enjoys interacting with staff. If we have papers spread out over the office, she's careful not to touch or disturb anything. For me, of course, it's great that the staff feels this way.

Q: How do you personally benefit by having Britta at the office?

A: The number one thing is that her presence helps me maintain the necessary calm that you need when you are executive director. She also provides security both at the office and at home. I'm quite comfortable arriving early at the office and working late; there is no need for me to rush home. She does get a little antsy ant·sy
