Creativity on campus.


A WEALTH of creative student talent will be on display at Teesside University next week.

Creative Arts Week runs from Monday until Friday, May 15 and features work by students studying courses in the School of Arts and Media.

All events are free and open to the public.

The programme includes: * Design and Fine Art exhibition of students' final-year work, Constantine Building and the Athena Building on Woodlands Road, Middlesbrough.

The exhibition opens on Monday from 4-8.30pm.

It will be formally opened at 6.30pm by Dan Walker, a Teesside design graduate who now has a hugely successful career as an illustrator and concept artist.

His work has been seen in Doctor Who and the 2008 Batman film The Dark Knight The Dark Knight may refer to:
  • Batman, a DC Comics superhero, is commonly known as The Dark Knight.
  • The Dark Knight Returns, the 1986 graphic novel miniseries by Frank Miller.

Dan will also be speaking at a lecture earlier that day at 3pm in room H0.01 at the Centuria Building. The exhibition runs for the rest of the week from 10am-4pm daily.

* Talks, on the history of Stewart Park Stewart Park is in Ithaca, New York. Ithaca is located on the southern tip of Cayuga Lake, the largest Finger Lake, and Stewart sits directly on that tip. The park is a popular place for barbecues, frisbee, tennis, baseball, and softball, as well as fishing and swimming on the lake.  on Tuesday from noon-1pm in the Constantine Lecture Theatre, and a further talk on the History of Middlesbrough's Cannon Street Cannon Street is a road in the south of the City of London. It runs roughly parallel with the River Thames, and about 250 metres north of it. It is the site of the ancient London Stone.  on

Wednesday from noon-1pm at the Constantine Lecture Theatre.

* Critically acclaimed dub performance poet, Michelle Scally-Clarke will be taking to the stage at the Students' Union on Wednesday from 6.30-7.20pm with her backing band. Michelle has published collections of poetry, and worked with many notable artists including Gill Scott Heron and Benjamin Zephaniah Benjamin Obadiah Iqbal Zephaniah (born 15 April 1958, Cole's Hill, Birmingham, England) is a British Rastafarian writer and dub poet, and is well known in contemporary English literature. Early life
Joe Robbingson spent part of his childhood in Jamaica.
. Her performance is part of the Cabaret of the Spoken Word event, to be held at the Students' Union from 6.30-11pm. Michelle will be followed by poetry and prose readings from local authors and Teesside University lecturers Bob Beagrie and Andy Willoughby, and also by students from the University's MA degree in Creative Writing.

* Media Showcase, displaying final-year Media and TV Production student films, Innovation Centre lecture theatre, on Thursday and Friday from 3-5pm.

* Production by dance and performing arts students, at Middlesbrough College's Theatre. The public can choose from either an open dress rehearsal dress rehearsal
