Pre- and in-service teachers will find practical advice on using creative dialogue in the classroom to stimulate thinking and learning, and 100 activities for using dialogue with children of all ages and abilities, both in the classroom and at home. The key principles of dialogic learning that underpin the activities are drawn from Piagetian approaches and the Philosophy for Children programs. Fisher (education, Brunel University) explains why children need dialogue, the different kinds of talk, and special features of creative dialogue. Many examples of creative dialogues are triggered by the Middle Eastern traditional stories featuring wise man and trickster Mulla Nasruddin. Each story is a joke with a moral, and illustrates a creative response to a human problem expressed through dialogue. Other examples show real-life dialogues of students dealing with texts such as Kafka's "Metamorphosis." Fisher has written 30 books on teaching and creativity.
