Creative Labs supports RenderWare for 3D Blaster.SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 16, 1995--Criterion Software today announced an alliance with Creative Labs to provide games developers with the tools to develop compelling 3D games for the PC consumer market. Creative Labs have licensed Criterion's RenderWare device driver for their 3D Blaster graphics accelerator A display adapter that performs a specialized set of graphics functions to render an image on screen. Today, all display adapters provide basic rendering functions in hardware, but many have graphics processing units (GPUs) that are sophisticated computers. and will make this driver available to the game developer community. "This driver will allow the games developed by any of the 500+ RenderWare developers, to be accelerated by Creative's 3D Blaster to deliver higher resolution, higher quality and faster games," said Mike King, Executive Vice President at Criterion. "All features that gamers clamour clam·our n. & v. Chiefly British Variant of clamor. clamour or US clamor Noun 1. a loud protest 2. for." "Criterion's RenderWare API (Application Programming Interface) A language and message format used by an application program to communicate with the operating system or some other control program such as a database management system (DBMS) or communications protocol. and Creative's 3D Blaster offer a cutting edge solution for 3D games developers," said Arnold Waldstein, Vice President of US Software and Product Marketing for Creative Labs Inc. "Together we will catapult catapult (kăt`əpŭlt'), mechanism used to throw missiles in ancient and medieval warfare. At first, catapults were specifically designed to shoot spears or other missiles at a low trajectory (see bow and arrow). consumers to a new level of 3D gameplay

"The combination of RenderWare and 3D Blaster is going to allow us to deliver to the consumer stunning 3D game performance," said Mark Long, President of Zombie A computer that has been covertly taken over in order to perform some nefarious task. It is estimated that millions of PCs around the world have been compromised and, under the control of a third party, routinely transmit messages unbeknownst to the user. Inc., a Seattle-based games developer. RenderWare device drivers supporting the 3D Blaster graphics accelerator will be available in Q4 1995. RenderWare, launched in December 1993, was the first interactive 3D graphics library for Windows/DOS. RenderWare's strength lies in its ability to provide real-time 3D graphics on PCs with and without a 3D graphics accelerator, thus opening up a substantial installed base of PCs as a target market for 3D applications. When RenderWare detects the presence of a 3D accelerator accelerator: see particle accelerator. (1) A key combination such as Alt-G or Ctrl-Shift H that is used to activate a task. (2) An incubator that expects to develop the company considerably faster than normal. RenderWare provides an excellent development environment for incorporating real-time 3D graphics into games, Virtual Reality, CAD and business applications. Criterion Software Ltd., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (Tokyo), is the leader in interactive 3D graphics software tools for personal computers. Criterion develops, markets and supports computer software products and technologies that expand the interactive 3D graphics frontiers on the desktop. The company licenses its products and technology to major developers worldwide through its offices in Sunnyvale, Guildford, England and Tokyo. -0- NOTE TO EDITORS: RenderWare is registered trademark of Canon Inc. 3D Blaster is a trademark of Creative Technology Ltd.
