During tough economic times, many people struggle with holiday gift giving. This year many smart consumers will focus on unique, personalized and philanthropic gifts instead of high tech purchases with hefty price tags. Let this news warm your spirits as you hunt for inspired bargains this holiday season. Let's go shopping!

?First, think "local". Buying locally supports businesses and artisans in your community and gets you shopping with your heart. Consider regional foods, handmade items and local charities. Gifting to a local charity that helps the unemployed with rent and utilities, is not only thoughtful, but doubly blesses those who are without. Local charities can often get overlooked during the holidays, due to the media exposure given to national organizations.

?Second, think "unique". What really happens to a first generation tech gadget?
It gets consumed and traded in for an eventual upgrade. Remember that fact this holiday season when you feel bad about not being able to buy your girlfriend the newest smart phone. Consider unique and thoughtful gifts that are uncommon. Let's say you're brother is a hiker, but you can't afford to purchase the newest GPS device for him this year. What about a unique gift like "Adopting An Acre" of land in his favorite Rocky Mountain state? That's a very unique and memorable gift starting at $25.

?Finally, think "personalized". There are hundreds of beautiful personalized gifts under $30 available online. Marketing studies have shown that consumers respond more favorably to "personal branding" or gifts that include their name. Take that concept up a notch by personalizing memorable items, not just clothing or jewelry. Consider a personalized picture frame dedicated to your recipient's sport, hobby or occupation. What about combining personalization and "green" gift giving with a personalized eco-friendly tote bag? The possibilities are endless, but most importantly they're personal. Your thoughtful purchase won't get re-gifted either!

This holiday season shop with your heart and embrace your inner creativity, even if you're on a tight budget. When you make purchases-think local, unique and personalized. You just can't go wrong!
