Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 27, 2001

Global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. (Nasdaq:CRAY) today said it shipped the first Cray SV1ex enhanced memory system. The enhanced memory system fulfilled a previously announced order from the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center The Arctic Region Supercomputing Center (ARSC) is a research facility organized under the University of Alaska Fairbanks. It is funded by the United States Department of Defense, and is a member of the department's High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP).  (ARSC ARSC Arctic Region Supercomputing Center

Cray SV1ex systems with faster processors began shipping on schedule in second-quarter 2001, but the company subsequently announced a delay in enhanced memory capabilities due to a technical issue. The Cray SV1ex enhanced memory system offers twice the system memory bandwidth of the previous memory system and for the first time provides a very large, very fast Solid State Disk capability.

"Now that this issue is resolved, we can address our existing Cray SV1ex order backlog and grow that backlog substantially through the ability to benchmark systems with the enhanced memory," said Michael P. Haydock, Cray Inc. president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Haydock said Cray SV1ex systems typically undergo a 30-day customer acceptance period before revenue is booked.
