The event is the primary fundraiser for the Palmer Home for Children, and this year's event promises plenty of Cajun fun. The party kicks off with a feast of crawfish while guests bid on silent and live auction items to the sounds of a zydeco zydeco (zī`dĭkō'), American musical form originating among the African-American Creoles of Louisiana. Drawing on elements of traditional Cajun music as well as jazz, country and western, and blues, it is characterized by French lyrics, band. Later, guests hit the dance floor with the Almost Famous band. "There's nothing quite like a good Southern crawfish party and a great dance floor outside in the spring," says Kristen Grant, director of groups and events for Palmer Home. "Add in a bit of fabulous shopping for men, women, and children, and what a party you have!" The Mudbug Bash also provides opportunities for fun and a little friendly rivalry for Palmer Home's Hernando campus children. The children color or paint the outline of a crawfish, and the 2007 winner, 13 year-old Joseph Nguyen, was named "King of Mudbug Bash." His artwork appears on the event's promotional materials. Joseph is one of nearly 100 children, ages birth through college, who live at one of Palmer Home's three campuses in Columbus and Hernando.
