Crash victim tributes.SUNDERLAND chairman Niall Quinn
Niall John Quinn (Honorary) MBE (b. October 6, 1966 in Dublin, Ireland) is a former Irish international footballer, and the current chairman of Sunderland AFC. and the club's former manager Peter Reid have paid tribute to crash victim Steven Atkinson. The 12-year-old was killed when he was hit by a car on Saturday night. An avid Sunderland fan, Steven had battled cancer and disabilities. Quinn said: "In his short life, Steven had overcome such adversity and was a very brave and inspirational young man." Peter Reid said: "My condolences go out to the family. After what the boy had been through, for this to happen is tragic." Steven was born with a cleft palate cleft palate, incomplete fusion of bones of the palate. The cleft may be confined to the soft palate at the back of the mouth; it may include the hard palate, or roof of the mouth; or it may extend through the gum and lip, producing a gap in the teeth and a cleft , jaw defect, curvature of the spine (Med.) an abnormal curving of the spine, especially in a lateral direction. He was hit by a Mini at around 8.45pm near the junction of Glenleigh Drive, on the A183 Chester Road. The driver was yesterday released on police bail. |
