Crash victim to take part in clinical trials.CLINICAL trials that could help paralysed people walk again may start within three years with the support of a charity led by a Liverpool woman. Gemma Quinn, 20, was paralysed from the neck down in a car crash when she was seven. Since then, Ms Quinn, from Woolton, has remained brave and has always believed she would walk again. That belief is now looking justified with yesterday's announcement of a new spinal repair unit at University College London “UCL” redirects here. For other uses, see UCL (disambiguation). University College London, commonly known as UCL, is the oldest multi-faculty constituent college of the University of London, one of the two original founding colleges, and the first British led by Professor Geoff Raisman and his team from the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR NIMR National Institute for Medical Research NIMR Netherlands Institute for Metals Research NIMR Nigerian Institute of Medical Research NIMR Nelson Institute for Marine Research (Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea) NIMR Naval Industrial Management Review ). UCL's Institute of Neurology neurology (n rŏl`əjē, ny –), study of the morphology, physiology, and pathology of the human nervous system. is now also working with a number
of spinal research charities including the International Spinal Research
Trust (Spinal Research).
Over the years Ms Quinn has raised more than pounds 200, 000 for Spinal Research and was invited by the charity to lead their new campaign. Ms Quinn says: ``I was only too pleased to help and I went down to London to film a video for them. ``It is very exciting. All my life I have believed that during my lifetime, the research would bear fruit, and I have concentrated on keeping myself fit in body and mind. '' p GEMMA will be appearing on the Discovery Health Channel. |
