"Farmers U" draws beginning agents from all over the country with 20 state of the art classrooms equipped with video screens, and meeting and practice rooms.

John Risk (yes, he's aware of the irony of his name) is an independent insurance agent from Indianapolis who recently visited the school.

"Some companies put you up at a boring conference at drab hotels and it isn't worth it," he said. "This is worth it."

The $17 million corporate education complex was dedicated in November and will receive what the Farmers finance department calls "significant dollars" for maintenance and expansion in the future. With the completion of the facility, Farmers has established itself as a leader in business education.

Last month Corporate University Xchange, a corporate research, training and development consultant, named "Farmers U" the best corporate university, citing its role in helping the company market itself, measure value and align its goals through learning. Farmers was up against heavyweights such as Boeing, Credit Suisse The Credit Suisse Group (SWX:CSGN, NYSE: CS) is a financial services company, headquartered in Zürich, Switzerland. It is the second-largest Swiss bank, behind UBS AG. , Hitachi and MasterCard.

Jim Harwood, director of sales training and development, said "Farmers U" is unique.

"It's not common in our industry to make this big of an investment and it's nice to know that we are in the corporate elite as well," he said. "What's important here is the cultural element of Farmers, and we want that to shine through."
