Yesterday, Perth Sheriff Court was told the pensioner's behaviour was partly caused by a blood supply condition which made him 'irritable'.

The couple, who work at a store in Perth, had driven up behind Stewart's Peugeot 206 on the A93 near Blairgowrie, Perthshire, on March 11.

He slowed down as if he wanted Susan to overtake but when she did Stewart started blaring his horn.

Susan, of Blairgowrie, said: 'As we came to a bend he started to overtake me.

'Then he slammed on his brakes and I had to follow suit or crash into the back of him.

'That put us into a skid and we hit a tree. I spent six days in hospital. I hope he gets banned for a long time.'

Stewart, of South Castle Street, Blairgowrie, Perthshire, admitted driving dangerously.

He also admitted targeting a learner driver in the other road-rage incident.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis banned Stewart from driving on an interim basis and deferred sentence to find out if he will ever be safe behind the wheel again.
