Crane Prairie advisory lifted.Byline: The Register-Guard A public health advisory for Crane Prairie Reservoir, in effect since July 1, was lifted Friday by the state Department of Human Services and the Deschutes County Health Department in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service. Recent samplings of algae algae (ăl`jē) [plural of Lat. alga=seaweed], a large and diverse group of primarily aquatic plantlike organisms. These organisms were previously classified as a primitive subkingdom of the plant kingdom, the thallophytes (plants that from the lake indicate that the Anabaena Anabaena Genus of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria). Found as plankton in shallow water and on moist soil, they occur in both solitary and colonial forms and are capable of nitrogen fixation. flos aquae aq·uae n. A plural of aqua. bloom has dissipated. During the bloom, algae concentrations reached 60,000 cells per milliliter milliliter /mil·li·li·ter/ (mL) (-le?ter) one thousandth (10-3) of a liter. mil·li·li·ter n. Microcystin, one of the toxins produced by this algae, reached a concentration almost five times the recommended maximum concentration for drinking water. Kauffman said monitoring of the lake will continue and the public will be advised if new algae concerns develop.
