THE surprising aspect of this Atreyu-topping six-band line-up was that it didn't warrant a place on the Academy's main stage.

Despite the Orange County alt-metallers' rising stock on the back of current album Lead Sails Paper Anchor, not to mention the presence of Story of the Year and As I Lay Dying on the same bill, it was a shock to see punters crammed cram

 into the far smaller venue upstairs.

Not that it seemed to spoil the enjoyment for a sell-out crowd who, from the moment Alex Varkatzas launched the band into Slow Burn, threw themselves into the moment.

Varkatzas, who was forced to pull out of a couple of shows due to a throat infection, had the odd wobble wobble /wob·ble/ (wob´'l) to move unsteadily or unsurely back and forth or from side to side. See under hypothesis.

There was even time for an "arena" moment when the crowd were asked to hold aloft anything they could find that would light up.
