Crafty youngsters are raising cash for kittens.

The arty pair have harnessed the latest school craze to raise cash for a rescue centre for cats.

They ordered a kit to make thousands of scoobie toys and have raised more than pounds 80 after selling them at Brockwell Middle School in Cram-lington.

All proceeds will go to the Drifters Reach cat's rescue home in Elswick, Newcastle.

Jessica, 10, from Cramlington, said: "We decided to do this to help the cats. If they don't have enough money they have to be put down."

Laura, 10, from Bedlington, said: "We're hoping to get about pounds 100. I got two kittens from the rescue home."

Headteacher Bill Maxwell said: "We encourage the children to raise money for charity.

"It's great that they are using their initiative."
