Cradle and ActivEye(R) Announce the Successful Porting of Advanced Video Content Analysis (VCA) Software to Cradle's Multi-Core DSP Platform.

Cradle Technologies, a fabless semiconductor company providing Multi-core DSPs (MDSPs) for video and imaging systems, and ActivEye, a leading provider of video content analysis software, today announced the successful porting of ActivEye(R)'s Active Alert(R) Intelligent Video Content Analysis (VCA) algorithms to Cradle's CT3600 MDSP family.

As security concerns mount, video surveillance is increasingly pervasive and more and more complex. Typical surveillance scenarios produce such huge volumes of video that system operators cannot effectively identify many of the potentially dangerous events they want to act upon. Intelligent video algorithms automatically detect threatening incidents so first responders can decide what action to take. Active Alert intelligent video surveillance systems greatly improve the productivity and accuracy of security operators by alerting them to behaviors that may be precursors to critical incidents.

Intelligent video systems to date have had cumbersome hardware requirements because of the CPU power needed to drive the algorithms. Solutions have included custom built proprietary servers running side by side with high end DVRs, only able to run 3-4 camera channels per unit. Though ActivEye software is highly optimized and has enabled 8-16 cameras on such platforms, customers are hungry for more. Larger enterprise applications with hundreds of channels, in particular, require small form factor, high-powered solutions that easily fit within existing infrastructure.

With its multi-core architecture, the CT3600 provides sufficient performance to run the full suite of Active Alert software. The CT3600 can do all video processing on one PCI-bus card, allowing the system to process up to 16 channels of video. This translates to a 50% reduction in hardware costs and a 75% rack space savings when deploying solutions with 16 or more cameras. The high performance and unparalleled flexibility of this architecture enables security equipment manufacturers to offer a wide range of products, including high channel density intelligent VCA, and VCA-enhanced multi-channel encoding.

Other demonstrations include a 16-channel PCI digital video recorder (DVR) card, capable of encoding 16 channels of CIF (or 4 channels of D1) resolution MPEG-4 in real-time, running on a CT3616-based standard PCI card, and a D1 resolution Main Profile H.264 encoder running at 30 frames-per-second (fps) on a CT3600-based development platform.

ActivEye(R) intelligent video products will also be showcased at booth #113 at ASIS 2005, September 12-14, in Orlando, Florida. Demonstrations will include Active Alert(R), the company's flagship video analytics security product. In addition, visitors will see ActivEye Smart Impressions(R) for business optimization, Intelligent Traffic Management; live People Counting and Retail Enhancement software, as well as ActivEye Forensics(R) software that enables incident retrieval in seconds or minutes instead of hours or days.
