Coyotes to remain in Phoenix this season


The troubled Phoenix Coyotes The Phoenix Coyotes are a professional ice hockey team based in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale. They are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL).  franchise isn't off to Canada anytime soon following an emergency bankruptcy hearing in a United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The Coyotes will play the 2009-10 regular season at Glendale arena while the staff, coaches and players await the outcome of competing auction bids, including one from Canadian business Canadian Business is the longest-publishing business magazine in Canada. Balsillie, who wants to eventually move the team to Hamilton, Ontario, told the courts that he would keep the club in Phoenix this season if he won the auction.

But the wait has been too long for Phoenix owner Jerry Moyes who filed for bankruptcy in May.

The league presented its own competing bid last month when Chicago tycoon Jerry Reinsdorf pulled out of the bidding process. At one point there were a handful of groups looking to buy the team.

The NHL board of governors had previously rejected Balsillie's proposal to buy the team, but the courts could overturn the NHL's decision because of the bankruptcy.
