Coyotes roll to 6-2 win over Sabres

Shane Doan skated through defenders to score one of three Phoenix goals in a span of just over 5 1/2 minutes of the second period and the Coyotes went on to beat the Buffalo Sabres 6-2 on Monday.

The Sabres set a franchise record with their eighth consecutive road loss with five more left on a seven-game trip.

Doan, who also had an assist, extended his career-best points streak to 11 games. Six Coyotes scored as the team matched its highest-scoring game of the season.

Niko Kapanen and Derek Morris also scored in the second-period barrage against backup Buffalo goalie Jocelyn Thibault that put the Coyotes ahead 4-1. Peter Mueller, Phoenix's 19-year-old center, scored his 13th goal and extended his points streak to seven games.

Daniel Winnik and Ed Jovanovski also scored for Phoenix. Paul Gaustad and Thomas Vanek had goals for Buffalo.

Kapanen made it 2-1 with an unassisted power play goal at 1:57. He intercepted Toni Lydman's pass attempt from behind the net, then his wrister bounced off Thibault's glove into the net.

Doan's 16th goal of the season just over 3 minutes later put Phoenix ahead 3-1. The Coyotes' captain maneuvered the puck through traffic, then shot it just off the right corner post into the net.

It was 4-1 after Morris rocketed a slap shot from the right point, a distance of about 65 feet, through the goalie's legs at 12:30 of the second. Fredrick Sjostrom and Keith Ballard got assists.

Phoenix scored on its first shot 54 seconds into the game on a 3-on-2 breakaway goal by Winnik, with assists from Martin Hanzal and Zbynek Michalek. Buffalo tied it at 1-1 when Gaustad rebounded Daniel Paille's shot into the net at 10:54 of the second. Ales Kotalik also got an assist on the score.

Phoenix outshot the Sabres 24-12 through the first two periods.

But Drew Stafford took a perfect pass from Thomas Vanek and scored to cut the lead to 4-2. Derek Roy passed to Vanek to get the second assist on the play.

Phoenix put it away with two goals in 1:05, Mueller's breakaway goal with 2:57 to play and Ed Jovanoski another with 1:52 remaining.
