Media's InternetWeek has ranked Coyote Point's Equalizer tops for price/performance in a test-based review of load balancing The fine tuning of a computer system, network or disk subsystem in order to more evenly distribute the data and/or processing across available resources. For example, in clustering, load balancing might distribute the incoming transactions evenly to all servers, or it might redirect them  appliances and software products, published in the April 24 issue.

In overall ranking, Coyote Point's E-250 tied for the top spot with the Intel Netstructure 7180 -- a product listing for over ten times the E-250's $3,995 price tag, which is less than half that of any other product tested. Products from F5, Lightspeed and Resonate were tested as well as those from Intel and Coyote Point.

The load balancing products were tested using RadView's WebLoad to create a load on virtual server clusters composed of servers with varying capabilities. Products were assessed on the basis of how well their load balancing algorithms evened the loads.

Coyote Point's E-250 was credited with effective load distribution for a full set of load balancing algorithms, top reporting features and management interface, and ease of setup. Due notice was also given to a preconfiguration option, making the Equalizer plug-and-play, and a new 2U enclosure, reducing costs in collocated environments.

Equalizer received the only "A" grade in Price/Performance, as well as A's for Installation, Manageability, Documentation (obviating ob·vi·ate

"We're delighted that InternetWeek took full account of the whole price/performance equation in load balancing," said Bill Kish, Coyote Point's CTO (Chief Technical Officer) The executive responsible for the technical direction of an organization. We appreciate InternetWeek's recognition of the value of our fine-grained server performance data, pre-configuration option, low product installation and maintenance costs and low base price -- a full value package."
