), the nation's largest provider and operator of local content on the Web, today announced the selection of Viaweb, Inc., the leading supplier of online store software. Viaweb technology will support CIM's goal of offering a variety of advertising options to local advertisers in its markets.

CIM City Sites are interactive, multimedia local sites rich in news, community content and interaction. Currently, CIM has local studios in 20 markets that produce city sites including AccessAtlanta.com (Atlanta), AccessArizona.com (Phoenix), BayInsider.com (San Francisco), RealPittsburgh.com (Pittsburgh, PA), SoFla.com (Miami), and SanDiegoInsider.com (San Diego). With over 16 million consumers currently online in the markets they serve (Scarborough and U.S. Census data), CIM will be able to provide the local advertiser with a way to easily establish an online store in a cost-effective way.

"Many of our advertisers are interested in selling on the Internet," said Peter Winter, president of Cox Interactive Media. "They recognize the obvious potential of Internet transactions - and the complex marketing and operational challenges they pose. Viaweb Store is a secure, cost-effective and easy-to-use tool which we can deploy across our network very quickly."

CIM also chose Viaweb due to its robust tracking tools that allow merchants to get measurable statistics on the success of their online stores. With just a web browser, merchants can instantly graph the sales, page views and web traffic for their online store. With this secure online ordering and tracking, advertisers can better focus on their fulfillment and customer service support.

"Most small and medium-sized businesses have not yet begun to take advantage of the Web as a sales channel," said Viaweb president Paul Graham. "CIM is in daily contact with these businesses. Now they will be able to present Viaweb as a proven e-commerce solution."
