Cox Interactive Media Announces Product and Marketing Promotions.

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 13, 2000

Two Departments Combined to Build Stronger Products

Cox Interactive Media (CIMedia), which operates one of the highest-rated networks of city sites across the country, today announced the integration of its content programming and marketing departments and the promotion of four managers to directors for its new product and marketing group. Tom Bates Tom Bates (born February 9, 1938) is a California politician, currently serving as the Mayor of Berkeley, California.

He is married to Loni Hancock, a former mayor of Berkeley who currently represents the 14th District in the California State Assembly.
 was recently named vice president to head up the new product and marketing department.

"We have an historic opportunity to design a product development process that is truly driven by marketing judgement," said Peter Winter, president of CIMedia, "The speed and novelty of the Internet demands that we eliminate traditional media's historic barriers between these two disciplines."

      New directors named to the product and marketing group are:

      --  Jeanette Appel, director of marketing, most recently served as
        new initiatives marketing strategist for CIMedia. She will
        lead all brand marketing for CIMedia, develop and oversee
        creative and online media buying and provide guidance for city
        site marketing plans. Appel will also be responsible for
        marketing elements in conjunction with key partners and
        CIMedia's corporate website.

      --  Rhonda McClendon, director of audience development, previously
        was marketing manager for AccessAtlanta.com. In her new role,
        McClendon's responsibilities include building CIMedia's
        audience through research, usage analysis and usability
        testing; establishing strategies and programs to acquire and
        retain users; and overseeing CIMedia's database marketing
        efforts.

      --  Nancy Nethery, director of product initiatives, was formerly
        project manager of content programming. As director, her goal
        is to ensure continuous and rapid improvement for CIMedia's
        city sites. She will continue to lead the implementation of
        key product initiatives and offer ongoing user interface
        improvements for CIMedia's city site network.

      --  Steve Yelvington, director of network content, was formerly
        executive editor of CIMedia. In his new position, Yelvington
        is responsible for content and product execution across the
        CIMedia city site network, including product management of all
        CIMedia city site channels.

Jeanette Appel, director of marketing

Appel, formerly new initiatives marketing strategist, joined CIMedia in 1998 as marketing manager for city site AccessArizona.com. While at AccessArizona.com, she was part of a team that won CIMedia's inaugural ICON award for "Site of the Year" and "Most Creative Advertising Sale." Previously, Appel was a brand manager for America West Airlines America West Airlines was one of the United States' ten major airlines. The airline was based in Tempe, Arizona, and is now a part of US Airways Group.

At the time of its integration into US Airways, the airline maintained two hubs, one at Phoenix Sky Harbor International
, where she developed a strategy for managing sports partnerships across all business segments, and managed marketing components of code share relationships with other airlines. Prior to that, Appel held several positions with Pizza Hut, including senior field marketing manager. In that capacity, she was a key liaison with the field marketing organization and developed advertising for three divisions representing 25 percent of Pizza Hut company and franchise restaurants. Appel worked primarily in Pizza Hut's international division, managing all aspects of global promotions in 89 countries and chairing a task force to develop the company's global brand identity. Rhonda McClendon, director of audience development

McClendon joined CIMedia in 1999 as marketing manager of AccessAtlanta.com. Prior to joining CIMedia, McClendon held several positions with America Online See AOL.  (AOL (A division of Time Warner, Inc., New York, NY, www.aol.com) The world's largest online information service with access to the Internet, e-mail, chat rooms and a variety of databases and services. ). Most recently, McClendon served as AOL Digital City's director of promotions and distribution, where she negotiated the distribution and integration of products and service across multiple platforms to generate traffic and build audience. She also served as network programs and promotions manager, responsible for content development, integration, and online promotional campaigns and programs. Before that, she worked in the AOL Legal Department handling a variety of legal, policy and business issues. Prior to AOL, McClendon worked at Instructional Television System, a company dedicated to interactive education programming via satellite television. Nancy Nethery, director of product initiatives

Nethery, formerly project manager of content programming for CIMedia since 1998, joined CIMedia in 1996 as general manager of AccessAtlanta.com. In that capacity, she developed and executed strategic, business and personnel plans for the city site in CIMedia's flagship market. Nethery and her team have earned CIMedia's prestigious "Golden Screwdriver" ICON award for two consecutive years. Nethery began her career with Cox Enterprises at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 1989. While at the newspaper, she served as managing editor for The Interactive Studio@The Atlanta Journal-Constitution from 1993 to 1996, where - among other responsibilities - she helped create AccessAtlanta.com from its inception. Before that, she held positions in the newspaper's Business News section as an assistant business editor and wire editor/weekend layout editor. Steve Yelvington, director of network content

Yelvington, who joined CIMedia in June 1999, was formerly executive editor of CIMedia. Before joining CIMedia, he served as the editor of startribune.com in Minneapolis. During his five-year stint at startribune.com, the site consistently ranked as one of the top newspaper-based sites worldwide and won numerous awards for content excellence. Yelvington's transition to digital media in 1994 followed an extensive career in print journalism as reporter, photographer and editor at the Star Tribune in Minneapolis, the St. Louis Globe-Democrat The St. Louis Globe-Democrat (casually referred to as The Globe) was a daily newspaper based in St. Louis, Missouri.
