Cox High Speed Internet Customers Get PowerBoost(TM).

Cox Utilizes Extra Bandwidth to Accelerate Large File Downloads up to Twice as Fast

ATLANTA -- Cox Communications announced availability of PowerBoost[TM], a cable industry exclusive speed enhancement that will give its high-speed Internet customers a burst when downloading large files. PowerBoost automatically utilizes additional capacity on Cox's local fiber-hybrid network to give customers a speed burst above and beyond their normal speed. The new feature is available in Cox's Northern Virginia system today, and will be launched in Cox markets across the country on a market-by-market basis.

"Cox customers will enjoy reduced download times of large files such as music, movies and pictures. And as PowerBoost becomes available in each market, it will automatically be activated for Preferred and Premier Package customers at no additional charge," said Steve Gorman, Vice President of Marketing for High Speed Internet. "Cox is the second cable provider to deliver PowerBoost, which makes our bundle of services more valuable than ever."

Comcast first introduced this to its customers last summer. Leveraging the Cable Labs DOCSIS[R] (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) protocol, PowerBoost technology automatically detects when a customer begins a large file download, regardless of file type. PowerBoost is designed to jumpstart the download and each lasts approximately a few seconds. Speeds will be boosted up to twice as fast for Cox Preferred package customers, and up to 33% faster for Premier customers.

PowerBoost is the latest in a series of enhancements introduced to Cox High Speed Internet customers this year. Recent enhancements include new security and parental control software, more WebMail features and speed increases. Cox's advanced broadband network continues to be in a great position to deliver a host of next generation features. And with an eye on the future, Cox has an initiative underway to improve its already advanced broadband network. This initiative is designed to further enhance Cox's network capacity so, as technology advances, the company's suite of entertainment, communications and information services will continue to expand and integrate. The company plans to offer new features that will integrate Cox's digital video, high-speed internet and telephone services, improving functionality and utility.
