Cox Completes Purchase Of TCIC Systems In Tucson And Sierra Vista, Ariz.

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 1998--Cox Communications, Inc. (NYSE:COX) and TCI Communications, Inc. (TCIC), part of Tele-Communications, Inc.'s TCI Group (NASDAQ:TCOMA) announced today that they have closed their transaction allowing Cox to purchase TCIC cable systems in Tucson, Sierra Vista and portions of Pima County, Arizona, which serve approximately 115,000 customers.

Cox Vice President and General Manager Gretchen Shine will manage the Tucson-area systems. Ms. Shine has been with Cox for 14 years in a variety of management roles. Most recently, she was Vice President and General Manager of Cox's Roanoke, Va., cable system.

Cox plans to upgrade the Tucson-area systems to a 750 MHz fiber-rich platform, as it is doing in other large cable systems throughout the United States. Pending closing of Cox's acquisition of Prime Cable's Las Vegas, Nev., cable system, Cox will serve 1.8 million customers in the southwestern United States.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
