The county is named after the Pima American Indian tribe which was indigenous to the area. As of the 2006 U.S. Census estimate, the population was 946,362. , which serve approximately 115,000 customers.

Cox Vice President and General Manager Gretchen Shine will manage the Tucson-area systems. Ms. Shine has been with Cox for 14 years in a variety of management roles. Most recently, she was Vice President and General Manager of Cox's Roanoke, Va., cable system.

Cox plans to upgrade the Tucson-area systems to a 750 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  fiber-rich platform, as it is doing in other large cable systems throughout the United States. Pending closing of Cox's acquisition of Prime Cable's Las Vegas, Nev., cable system, Cox will serve 1.8 million customers in the southwestern United States.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
