Cox Communications Deployment of Active Padcom(R) Licenses Surpasses 3,000 Users Nationwide; Substantial ROI from Initial TotalRoam(R) Mobile Data Solution Installation Drives Accelerated Adoption.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Padcom, Inc., a leader in wireless software solutions for continuous network connectivity to critical applications, today announced that Cox Communications , the nation's fourth largest cable and Internet service provider, now has deployed more than 3,000 active Padcom TotalRoam clients as part of its nationwide mobile communications strategy. In 2004, Cox Communications purchased 10,000 TotalRoam licenses and has been rolling them out in stages -- first to their field force of service technicians in specific geographic areas and then to other areas and key mobile user populations. The initial implementation for field service technicians has delivered significant ROI in terms of saved time and resources. As a result, Cox Communications has accelerated its plan to expand the reach of implementation.

TotalRoam works within Cox Communications' complex wireless data infrastructure to provide always-on, secure connections for mobile technicians without requiring them to manage re-connects as they move in and out of network coverage areas. Since TotalRoam is able to seamlessly integrate and manage connectivity for virtually all types of public and private networks, Cox Communications has been able to extend the application to a variety of new markets. Over the past year, Cox Communications has implemented over 3,000 TotalRoam licenses in a variety of markets, including San Diego, CA; Macon, GA; Pensacola, FL; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; North Carolina; and Northern Virginia.

In order to quantify the impact of the software, Cox Communications Hampton Roads, VA facility conducted a 60-day study following the activities of 25 field service employees equipped with ruggedized laptops, multiple wireless data network coverage, and TotalRoam software clients. Over the course of two months, the mobile technicians were able to securely and remotely access unlimited applications on the Cox network in addition to work order management. As a result of the TotalRoam mobile data solution, the team of technicians experienced significant increases in productivity over the department's average for the months tested -- gaining roughly one extra hour per worker, per shift, without requiring any other technical changes. In addition to increased employee effectiveness, there was an increase in employee morale from workers who were satisfied with their ability to quickly get the information they needed, when and where they needed it.
