Cox Cable, Jones merge infomerical networks to reach 2.4 million households.ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 1994--Cox Cable Communications and Jones International Networks Inc. have signed a letter of intent to form a joint venture for the operation of a 24-hour infomercial network. The agreement represents a consolidation of Cox Cable's Consumer Information Network, which reaches more than one million households, and Jones' Product Information Network (PIN), which reaches 1.3 million homes. "From the early days of planning the Consumer Information Network, we knew critical mass was important to both the advertiser and the cable operator," said Patrick Esser, vice president, advertising sales for Cox Cable Communications. "Combining efforts will mean better results for our vendors, our affiliates and the growing universe of cable customers who are reacting favorably to this home shopping venue." "The experience we've amassed over the past year enables us to target products with the markets where they'll be most widely accepted," said Greg Liptak, president of Jones Spacelink Ltd., and project director of PIN. "This knowledge is now combined with the industry's most efficient means of delivering infomercial programming at the right times to the right homes, which represents higher margins for our affiliates." PIN is the first full-time cable television infomercial service. Jones Infomercial Networks Inc., parent company of PIN, is a subsidiary of Jones International Ltd. Formed in 1969, Jones International Ltd. is the parent company of 17 subsidiaries in the telecommunications industry, including Jones Intercable Inc., and Jones Spacelink Ltd., which serve approximately 1.3 million cable TV customers in the United States. The Consumer Information Network is an operating unit of CableRep Advertising, a subsidiary of Cox Cable Communications Inc. Cox Cable serves nearly 1.9 million customers in 18 states as owner and operator of 21 cable television systems. CONTACT: Cox: Ellen East, 404/843-5855 (Atlanta) PIN: Andy Holdgate, 303/792-3111 |
