In keeping with: according to instructions. 3. the 1851 census) in Cowpen. According to the census he was a miner and I believe that in that era people lived and worked in the same area, but have been unable to find a village/pit of that name in Northumberland where later ancestors seem to have come from. The odd thing is that I have a gold ring presented from his friends as a mark of respect, engraved August 1866.
