Cowles' homers send Ducks to defeat.

TEMPE, Ariz. - Mindy Cowles hit two home runs and drove in three runs to give seventh-ranked Arizona State a 4-2 victory over 14th-ranked Oregon in Pac-10 softball on Friday night.

 a 3-0 lead. She added her second in the sixth inning to make it 4-0.

The Ducks rallied in the seventh inning, breaking up a perfect game by ASU's Katie Burkhart with a walk to Suzie Barnes, followed by a two-run homer by Jennifer Salling.

Burkhart allowed just the one hit and struck out 10 in the complete-game effort.

TUCSON, Ariz. - Kristie Fox doubled, tripled and homered to lead Arizona to a 3-1 Pac-10 softball victory over Oregon State on Friday night.

Fox went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs for the Wildcats (32-9), and scored the eventual game-winning run in the third inning.

Cambria Miranda hit a solo home run in the first inning, her ninth of the season, to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. It was just one of two hits on the day for Oregon State (33-14).

Lane Community College's Jordan McNamara broke the school's nearly 30-year-old 10,000-meter record on Friday at the Oregon Invitational.

McNamara finished in 29 minutes, 36.33 seconds, beating the old mark of 29:40.30 held by Ken Martin since 1978.

McNamara also broke Martin's record in the 5,000 meters three weeks ago at the Stanford Invitational.

Stutes strikes out 12 in OSU victory over Rebels

CORVALLIS - Mike Stutes allowed two hits and struck out 12 over eight innings to lead Oregon State to a 3-1 victory over UNLV UNLV University of Nevada, Las Vegas  in a nonconference college baseball game on Friday night.

Mitch Canham hit a two-run homer and drove in all three runs for the Beavers (29-8).

But it was the pitching and defense that stood out on Friday.

Yearby leads Chargers

to third straight victory

BRUSH PRAIRIE, Wash. - Solomon Yearby scored 31 points and Jamar Bohannon added 19 points to lead the Eugene Chargers to a 108-100 victory over the Vancouver Volcanoes on Friday night.

Lamar Harris added 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Chargers (3-1), who won their third straight game, and Charles Easterling had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
