Covert dating.

My BF doesn't want anyone to know we date, so he avoids me. We pass notes to communicate. How do I tell him I want more?

BILL Would you still find him cool if he were your age? Make sure you're not choosing him just because he's older. He's already done all the freshman, sophomore and junior stuff you have to look forward to, and he may not want to do it again. Be flattered that he likes you, but don't miss out on freshman year!

DAVE Great advice from my, uh, senior writing partner. This potential pairing is all about math: The dude is a senior, about to go to college. This doesn't add up to a relationship. Class dismissed.

I wrote a poem about my crush, who is also my friend. My friends think it's great, but I want to know how guys react to poetry. It's not mushy-gushy, but I don't want him to be freaked.

BILL How do guys love poetry? Let me count the ways. Getting a poem is like hugging your room. You can appreciate it--just not in front of your friends.

DAVE Resisting the temptation to answer in haiku haiku (hī`k), an unrhymed Japanese poem recording the essence of a moment keenly perceived, in which nature is linked to human nature. , I'll suggest tucking away the poem unless things progress a bit further. This guy is your friend, and you don't want to freak him out with verse. Give it some time.

I am Asian-American, and I hate when people match me up with Asian boys I don't like and act like we're supposed to be together. I actually like a boy who's not Asian, and I'm not sure if he even likes Asian girls.

BILL Don't buy into the prejudices of small-minded people. Look for great Asian-American role models. Go after your guys, uh, goals, no matter what others think. No limits!

DAVE You should be proud of your ethnic background, but those traits should not in any way dictate which people you should date. The person who's right for you will fully embrace that sentiment.
