Covansys (Nasdaq: CVNS CVNS Concert Virtual Network Service

), a global technology services company, today announced it has won a $14.5 million contract from the Public Employees Retirement Board of Nebraska (PERB PERB Public Employment Relations Board (Canada)
PERB Phoenix Employment Relations Board (Arizona)
PERB Performance Evaluation Review Board
) to implement a new pension administration system that will improve internal efficiency and data management and give members Internet access See how to access the Internet.  to their own records for the first time. The system will encompass the six public pension plans under the administration of the Nebraska Public Employees Retirement System (NPERS NPERS Nebraska Public Employees Retirement Systems ).

The PIONEER Project (Pension Information of Nebraska for Efficient and Effective Retirement) will be implemented in four phases and is scheduled for completion in May 2004. Under the terms of the contract, Covansys will replace the existing mainframe system and design, as well as implement, a state-of-the-art pension administration system. Using Covansys' Clarety software, the new PIONEER system will provide integrated workflow and office automation capabilities that will significantly improve the speed and accuracy of business processing.

"Currently, our information system is antiquated and relies heavily on manual procedures to process member benefit applications," said Anna J. Sullivan, director of NPERS. "The approval of this contract is a major decision of the PERB that will benefit members for many years to come. The Covansys solution has been proven in several other statewide pension plans. Overall, it will allow us to respond better and more rapidly to meet the needs of our employers and members."

The new PIONEER system will allow the NPERS staff to increase productivity and ultimately focus more on the needs of members and less on routine processing tasks. With its easy to use, Web-enhanced functionality, the system is designed to:
-- Improve records management and reporting capabilities

-- Enhance customer service functions

-- Improve data quality

-- Reduce processing times for requested services

-- Improve work tracking and process management

For the 57,000 active members and 10,500 benefit recipients in Nebraska, the new PIONEER system will provide members and employers Internet access to their account information, peace of mind that their information will be accurately stored and maintained, faster completion of requested services and a higher level of NPERS customer service.

"The NPERS implementation is part of our strategic goal to continue providing the best and most progressive public retirement information system solutions to the retirement marketplace," said Jeff Adair, Covansys' NPERS project executive. "We believe our many successes in the public sector are a direct correlation Noun 1. direct correlation - a correlation in which large values of one variable are associated with large values of the other and small with small; the correlation coefficient is between 0 and +1

to the knowledge, experience and forward-thinking that we are bringing to our clients' information systems. Our continued implementation success rate is a clear validation of our approach. We are pleased to add Nebraska PERS a. 1. Light blue; grayish blue; - a term applied to different shades at different periods.  to our list of retirement client successes."

In 2001, with the addition of Nebraska, Covansys is providing retirement solutions or services in fourteen states.
