Covad Expanding Network to 40 Percent of U.S. Homes and Businesses; Coverage Will Expand to 100 of the Top MSAs in the Country.

Broadband digital communications connection that operates over standard copper telephone wires. It requires a DSL modem, which splits transmissions into two frequency bands: the lower frequencies for voice (ordinary
)-based services to 40 percent of the homes and businesses in the country.

This expansion adds 49 additional metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) and 19 additional states to Covad's national services coverage. Covad is operational today in 51 MSAs and this expansion will bring Covad's network coverage to 100 of the top MSAs in the U.S. Covad is already building its network in three of the newly announced MSAs, which will expand services in current regions. Network build out is expected to be complete by the end of 2000.

Expansion in the Pacific Southwest will include extending broadband
services to:
                California - Santa Barbara and Ventura
                          Nevada - Las Vegas

In the Rocky Mountain region, network expansion will bring broadband
capabilities to:
                    Utah - Provo and Salt Lake City
                      Colorado - Colorado Springs

Network expansion in the Southwest will bring service to:
                           Arizona - Tucson
                       New Mexico - Albuquerque
                       Oklahoma - Oklahoma City
                          Texas - San Antonio

Network expansion in the Central United States will bring broadband
 capabilities to:
                        Indiana - Indianapolis
                         Kentucky - Louisville
                        Michigan - Grand Rapids
                 Missouri - St. Louis and Kansas City
           Ohio - Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, and Dayton
                         Wisconsin - Milwaukee

In the South, Covad's network expansion will extend services into:
                         Alabama - Birmingham
              Florida - Tampa, Jacksonville, and Orlando
                        Louisiana - New Orleans
               North Carolina - Charlotte and Greensboro
                   Tennessee - Nashville and Memphis

In the Eastern region, the network will be expanded to provide
broadband access to:

  Connecticut - Bridgeport, Danbury, Hartford, New Haven and Stamford
