His ex-girlfriend Marie Shiels was having sex with a man in his bedroom while another couple were doing the same in his bed. Donegal Circuit Court heard how furious Mislop ordered the couples to stop but they continued with their love-making. Mislop, from Portadown, Co Armagh, stabbed his love rival Daniel Boyle after a fight broke out. Mislop's lawyer Peter Nolan claimed his client would be regarded as a hero if it had happened in France. He added: "Mr Mislop would be carried shoulder-high from the court by the male members of the court for his actions on this night. CUCKOLDED "In Ireland, unfortunately, he is not in such a position. In French law it is the right of the cuckolded man to take such action as he sees fit to uphold his honour." The court heard the pair had broken up shortly before the incident but Mislop let his ex stay in his Conlin Road flat in Killybegs, Co Donegal, until she found somewhere else to live. On the night of the incident, Ms Shiels had texted Mislop to inform him she was returning to the flat with a friend for a few drinks. Mislop rang Ms Sheils and asked her who she was with and she told him she was with a female friend. The accused, who had been drinking heavily, said he pulled Ms Shiels off the man before a scuffle broke out and Mr Boyle was stabbed. He then called the gardai in the early hours of June 19, 2007, to tell them he had stabbed a man. When gardai arrived he told them an ambulance had taken the other man to hospital. Gda Elaine Kelly said: "He gave a full disclosure of what happened and pointed out the scene to me. The background was unusual, to say the least." Gda Kelly said Milsop was a respectable member of the community and was shocked and sorry about the attack. She added: "He was enraged and felt compromised in his own house. He's a very mild-mannered man and was extremely co-operative." ENRAGED In a statement read out to court, Mislop said: "I didn't mean to hurt anybody, only to scare them. I was very enraged with Marie bringing people into my room." Ms Shiels apologised to Mislop and said the pair were pals again. She added: "It's my fault. There was too much alcohol. It was stupid. We are the best of friends now." Judge Griffin Chief Judge Griffin is a fictional character in the Judge Dredd comic strip in 2000 AD. He was chief judge of Mega-City One between 2101 and 2104. Before becoming chief judge he was principal of the Academy of Law, and personally trained whole generations of the said he would normally impose a jail sentence for such an attack but said there were "mitigating factors" in this case.
