According to court records, Mr. Parks failed to appear in court on March 20, 1995, the day of his scheduled trial on the 1994 charges. A violation of probation hearing was scheduled the same day in connection with the 1993 assault and battery conviction, according to Assistant Chief Probation Officer Maureen Chamberlain.

She said Mr. Locke (SEE CORRECTION) had a suspended 18-month jail sentence hanging over his head in the 1993 case. Ms. Chamberlain asked the judge to hold Mr. Parks without bail, pending a violation of probation hearing.

Judge Locke set $5,000 cash bail on the 1994 charges. Both cases were continued to July 2.
