Court finds Master Lock competitor falsely labeled padlocks as "Made in USA".


MILWAUKEE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 1996--A Federal court has ruled that Master Lock, which has headquarters in Milwaukee, has shown that a competitor's labeling of padlocks as "Made in USA For other uses, see Made in USA (disambiguation).

The Made in USA mark is a country of origin label indicating the product is "all or virtually all" made in the U.S. The label is regulated by the Federal Trade Commission.

The court also determined that consumers are deceived by such mislabeling mislabeling,

 and that such deception has likely influenced purchasing decisions. The court determined that the parties must now proceed to trial to determine whether Hampton's mislabeling resulted in material financial losses to Master Lock.
