Court cuts fine for sculpture tragedy artist; IN BRIEF .


THE creator of an inflatable artwork which blew away, killing two women, has won an appeal against the pounds 10,000 fine imposed on him for breaching health and safety regulations.

Artist Maurice Agis, 77, had the penalty reduced to pounds 2,500 by the Court of Appeal in London.

Agis, from Kirton Gardens, Bethnal Green Bethnal Green: see Tower Hamlets. , east London, was accused of manslaughter by gross negligence An indifference to, and a blatant violation of, a legal duty with respect to the rights of others.

Gross negligence is a conscious and voluntary disregard of the need to use reasonable care, which is likely to cause foreseeable grave injury or harm to persons, property, or
 of Elizabeth Collings and Claire Furmedge, who fell out of his Dreamspace sculpture in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, but a jury was unable to reach verdicts.
