A lawsuit in which one party or a limited number of parties sue on behalf of a larger group to which the parties belong. For example, investors may bring a class action lawsuit against a brokerage firm that has actively promoted a tax
 filed on behalf of those who purchased shares of Bank Plus Corp. ("BPLS BPLS British Politics and Legislative Studies ") common stock between March 30, 1998 and Sept. 22, 1998.

The Complaint alleges that defendants issued false and misleading statements that materially misrepresented the financial condition and future prospects of BPLS's affinity credit card program. As a result of the false and misleading statements, the price of BPLS common stock was artificially inflated throughout the Class Period. On the last day of the Class Period, when defendants were finally forced to disclose the truth about BPLS's affinity credit card program, the price of BPLS common stock plummeted 25 percent on heavy trading.
