Court In Brief.

A COVENTRY man has been jailed for four months by city magistrates for offences including re-offending while on licence.

Matthew John Downes, aged 31, of Middleborough House, St Columba's Close, Radford, was also charged with having a kitchen knife in a public place namely Corporation Street, without good reason or lawful authority.

Downes was jailed because he offended while subject to a suspended sentence - he has previous convictions for possessing knives. He was ordered to forfeit the knife for destruction.

Other cases dealt with by Coventry magistrates on November 16 included:

Makhen Cheema, aged 53, of Hodges Lane, Berkswell, Coventry, selling cigarettes from Costcuttes, Elm Tree Avenue, to a person under the age of 16, fined pounds 1,000.

Hemel Chohan, aged 26, of Roland Avenue, Holbrooks, Coventry, abandoned refuse on land at Rowleys Green Lane, Coventry, fined pounds 500.

Tina O'Doherty, aged 46, of Bolingbroke Road, Stoke, Coventry, two charges of failing to comply with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 by playing loud music, conditional discharge for one year.

Darren Marcos McKinlay, aged 30, of Vincent Wyles House, Attoxhall Road, Wyken, Coventry, possession of cocaine, a class A controlled drug, fined pounds 100 and ordered to forfeit the cocaine for destruction.

Victor John Ozols, aged 34, of Broomfield Place, Earlsdon, Coventry, two charges of theft to the total value of pounds 104.94 and one charge of possession of diazapan, a class C controlled drug, community order for two years and ordered to attend the OSAP programme.

Pista Baci, aged 33, of Widdrington Road, Radford, Coventry, driving with an incorrect licence, failing to produce a licence, using a vehicle without insurance, failing to produce a certificate of insurance, using a vehicle without a test certificate and failing to produce a test certificate, fined pounds 500.

Balinderjeet Singh Dhaliwal, aged 29, of Wallace Road, Keresley, Coventry, drunk and disorderly behaviour in a public place, using or threatening unlawful violence and damaging property to the value of pounds 100, five months imprisonment suspended for two years and ordered to pay compensation of pounds 100.

Scott Anthony Ibberson, aged 28, of Potters Road, Bedworth, driving with an incorrect licence, failing to produce a licence, using a vehicle without insurance, failing to produce a certificate of insurance, using a vehicle without a test certificate and failing to produce a test certificate, fined pounds 500.

Melissa Lower, aged 34, of Wappenbury Road, Wood End, Coventry, driving with an incorrect licence, failing to produce a licence, using a vehicle without insurance, failing to produce a certificate of insurance, using a vehicle without a test certificate and failing to produce a test certificate, fined pounds 500.

Michael Graham Wells, aged 25, of Brunel Close, Whitnash, Leamington, driving while disqualified, using a vehicle without insurance and fraudulent use of a vehicle excise licence, community order for one year, banned from driving for three months, fined pounds 250 and ordered to forfeit the tax disc for destruction.

Wayne Lambert, aged 30, of Harefield Road, Stoke, Coventry, conduct causing a breach of the peace, bound over to keep the peace for one year.

Ashley Steven Ullah, aged 20, of Tallants Road, Bell Green, Coventry, driving while disqualified, using a vehicle without insurance, possession of cannabis resin, a class C controlled drug, and failing to surrender to custody, 14 weeks detention in a young offenders' institution.

Arkadivsz Kaminski, aged 26, of Over Street, Bell Green, Coventry, failing to produce a licence and using a vehicle without insurance, fined pounds 125.

Philip John Bowman, aged 33, of Victoria Street, Hillfields, Coventry, theft to the value of pounds 266.58, failing to provide a non-intimate sample for the purpose of ascertaining whether he had a class A drug, and theft to the value of pounds 200, community order for one year, ordered to submit for treatment either as a patient or non-resident patient for one year and ordered to pay compensation of pounds 200.

Robyn Louise Findell, aged 19, of Eagle Street, Foleshill, Coventry, loitering in a street or public place for the purpose of prostitution and failing to surrender to custody, fined pounds 100 and a criminal antisocial behaviour order for two years.

Craig John Gillespie, aged 27, of Randle Street, Radford, Coventry, driving with excess alcohol, using a vehicle without a test certificate, using a vehicle without insurance and driving with an incorrect licence, fined pounds 450, banned from driving for two years and a drink-drive course was accepted.

Iain Scott Parkhouse, aged 25, of The Greenfield, Stoke Aldermoor, Coventry, found drunk in a public place and possession of cannabis, a class C controlled drug, fined pounds 310 and ordered to forfeit the cannabis for destruction.

Ian David Pittendrigh, aged 43, of Capulet Close, Willenhall, Coventry, failing to provide a specimen or specimens of breath for analysis, driving with an incorrect licence and using a vehicle without insurance, fined pounds 250, banned from driving for 18 months and a drink-drive course was offered and accepted.

Geoffrey Robert Ross, aged 51, of Hipswell Highway, Wyken, Coventry, assaulting a female, fined pounds 200 and ordered to pay compensation of pounds 100.

Jean Baker, aged 43, of Bramston Crescent, Tile Hill South, Coventry, failing to notify the council of a change in circumstances which she knew would affect her entitlement to council tax benefit and housing benefit, community punishment order for 40 hours.

Andrew Grant Rigg, aged 36, of William Malcolm House, Attoxhall Road, Wyken, Coventry, two charges of failing to comply with the Environmental Protection Act 1990, namely by playing loud music, fined pounds 100.

Daniel Bennett, aged 20, of Cannon Drive, Ash Green, using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, fined pounds 100.

Serina Chimanlal Patel, aged 24, of Paradise Place, Coventry, driving with excess alcohol and driving with an incorrect licence, fined pounds 300, banned from driving for two years and a drink-drive course was offered and accepted.

Richard Graham John, aged 23, of Roseberry Avenue, Bell Green, Coventry, driving while disqualified and using a vehicle without insurance, community order for one year and banned from driving for one year.

John James Malone, aged 24, of Craners Road, Hillfields, Coventry, driving with an incorrect licence and using a vehicle without insurance, fined pounds 210.

Antonio Manotti, aged 31, of Humber Road, Stoke, Coventry, driving with an incorrect licence, failing to produce a licence, using a vehicle without insurance, failing to produce a certificate of insurance, using a vehicle without a test certificate and failing to produce a test certificate, fined pounds 420.

Valbart McCook, aged 43, of Corinthian Place, Wyken, Coventry, failing to produce a licence, using a vehicle without insurance and failing to produce a certificate of insurance, fined pounds 55.
