Courses for all at city college; NEW CAREER: Routes into teaching to suit everyone.

WHETHER you are a sixth form leaver or want a change in career direction, there are routes into teaching to suit everybody.

At Newman University Newman University is a coeducational Catholic liberal arts university in Wichita, Kansas. The university offers both undergraduate and masters level programs.

Newman was established by the Adorers of the Blood of Christ.
College, Birmingham, students can choose to undertake a three or four-year Primary (age 3-7 or 5-11) and Key Stage 2/3 (age 7-14) course in a range of subject areas, or a one-year Postgraduate (PGCE PGCE Postgraduate Certificate in Education (UK)
PGCE Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (UK)
) course focusing on Key Stage 2/3 or Secondary (age 11-16), enabling graduates to become qualified in as little as a year.

Alternatively, students can combine work with study and undertake an employment-based teaching course designed so graduates can train whilst actually working in a school, through the Graduate Teacher Programme The Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) is a programme in England and Wales for graduates who want to gain Qualified Teacher Status while working. A person must work in a school as an unqualified teacher in order to participate in the programme, which can last from three months  (GTP GTP (guanosine triphosphate): see guanine. ).

Newman trainee teacher Ashley Alcock, who has taken the option of studying a four-year course in geography, said: "From a very young age I have always wanted to be a primary school teacher.

"I had a very good school experience as a child and had lots of lovely teachers who had a wonderful impact on me. I just wanted to be part of that incredible group, so I chose initial teacher training at Newman.

"I was overjoyed when I got accepted at Newman. The course provides so much knowledge and experience. Lectures are really interesting and they really teach and prepare you for a life in education.

"Most of all it is so rewarding, especially on school experience. The joy and sense of achievement you will feel from knowing that you have taught a whole class something that they will remember for the rest of their lives is amazing."

Places for September 2009 are still available for several PGCE, GRTP and undergraduate teacher training courses.
