The course, "Protecting Children from Sexual Abuse," runs at 6:30 p.m. April 11 in the Siuslaw Fire Hall, 2625 Highway 101, Florence.

It's meant for parents, guardians and professionals, and is presented by the Florence Police Department, Lane County Parole and Probation and the Lane County District Attorney's Office.

"Some past programs have focused on training children how to protect themselves, and this is good," she added. "However, children can't protect themselves adequately. They need help, and that's what this training is designed to do - to give parents and guardians more tools and knowledge to protect their children."

The training will last about two hours and will cover topics ranging from recognizing sex offenders to protecting your children, and what to do if your child has been abused.

For more information, call Mazikowski at 997-7177.
