Courage Center Camp Programs Receive Accreditation.


MINNEAPOLIS -- Courage Center, a nationally-known rehabilitation rehabilitation: see physical therapy.  and resource center for people with disabilities, announced today that its residential and day camp programs have been accredited accredited

recognition by an appropriate authority that the performance of a particular institution has satisfied a prestated set of criteria.

Camp Courage and Courage North both received accreditation from the American Camp Association in early November 2004. This is an extensive documentation and visit process done every three years to review facilities, policies and programs.

"Our camp staff prepares for the accreditation with little fanfare every three years," said Bob Polland, director of camping services. "Courage Camps always operate at high standards, so preparation is easy."

The accreditation program is conducted by outside volunteers who look at every aspect of the camps using standards set by the ACA ACA - Application Control Architecture . There are six main categories that are evaluated: site and food service; transportation; health and wellness; operational management; human resources The fancy word for "people." The human resources department within an organization, years ago known as the "personnel department," manages the administrative aspects of the employees. ; and program activities.

While receiving accreditation is voluntary, there are a number of benefits for Courage Camps. The accreditation process helps camps to recognize and manage any risk areas, evaluate practices and measure the camp's performances against best practice standards. In addition, parents and potential campers can look at this information and see that Courage Camps demonstrate commit to offer quality programs and adhere to adhere to

In 2003, all of Courage's day camps were accredited by the same process. To receive accreditation, camp facilities need to meet or exceed 80 percent. Camp Courage received a marking of 97 percent. All of Courage Camps have achieved accreditation with very high scores since the early 1970s.
