Coupling agents.Z-6940 silane silane or silicon hydride Any of a series of inorganic compounds of silicon and hydrogen with covalent bonds and the general chemical formula SinH(2n + 2). is a tetrasulfidosilane coupling agent for silica filled rubber. Applications include use as a coupling agent for inorganic fillers in organic rubber, such as silica in black rubber used in tire treads. It appears as a clear, amber liquid with a sulfur content of 22.7% and an average sulfur chain length of 3.75. Z-6940 silane is a sulfur functional silane and is reactive in sulfur-vulcanized rubber. It is said to provide compatibilization and coupling between inorganic fillers and organic rubber, e.g., silica and SBR SBR - Spectral Band Replication . As with any organofunctional alkoxysilane coupling agent, Z-6940 can be applied as a primer or incorporated in-situ in a compound formulation. As a primer, the silane can be dispersed dis·perse v. dis·persed, dis·pers·ing, dis·pers·es v.tr. 1. a. To drive off or scatter in different directions: The police dispersed the crowd. b. in ethanol at about 1% and wiped onto a substrate. As an in-situ treatment, the silane is typically added with the organic matrix and inorganic filler/reinforcement.
