Couple to quit pub over music; CALLING TIME: Bitter row over council's noise abatement order.

Byline: Vicky Farncombe

A COUPLE who run a picture-postcard Midland pub are set to quit over a music noise row.

Tanya Jones and Keith Welling plan to leave the New Inn in Shrawley, Worcestershire, after being hit with a noise abatement order by council officials.

The row echoes a dispute involving Birmingham's popular Rainbow pub in Digbeth.

It was also served with an abatement order by the city council following noise complaints from a handful of residents living in posh new flats nearby.

Ms Jones and Mr Welling said they had been forced to cancel a beer and music festival because of complaints from a small number of residents, prompting Malvern Hills Malvern Hills, range of hills, c.9 mi (14.5 km) long, W central England, in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. "It's left a nasty taste," said Ms Jones.

"We've worked hard to make the pub a success.

"It seems very harsh not to allow us to hold any live music events at all."

A spokesman for the council said an environmental health officer had carried out assessments with an independent inspector, and reached the view "that any outside music event would represent a noise nuisance for neighbours This article is about an Australian soap opera. Ms Jones and Mr Welling are now waiting to see if a new tenant can be found, but fear the New Inn may have to close if it cannot be re-let.

The noise issue has affected other Birmingham pubs, as well as The Rainbow.
