the house for cash and valuables.

The 30-minute raid took place at 7.30pm on Friday but the couple were not discovered for ten hours when their daughter arrived at 9.30am the following morning.

Detectives believe the robbers, who all wore dark clothing and trainers, escaped under cover of darkness across farm fields at the back of the property to a waiting vehicle.

Detective Inspector Dean Jones, of West Mercia Police, said: "While it should be emphasised that robberies of this nature are extremely rare, this was a terrible ordeal for the couple involved and we are appealing for the public's help to ensure that the offenders are tracked down and caught as soon as possible.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the Hillpool area last Friday between around 6pm and 9pm to think back carefully and let us know if they saw any unusual vehicles there.

"This is a quiet, rural area and it's quite possible that someone may have noticed a vehicle either parked up or driving around in suspicious circumstances, in Hillpool or other local roads, particularly Egg Lane, Drayton Road or Barrowhill Lane," he added.

The couple were taken by ambulance to Kidderminster Hospital suffering bruises across their bodies and severe shock.
