Couple's royal mercy flight.


A BAHRAIN couple stranded at a hospital in Athens, Greece, was evacuated by jet this week at the order of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques (Arabic: خادم الحرمين الشريفين), a historical term, was a pious title taken by some Caliphs and modern Saudi kings.  King Abdullah King Abdullah can refer to:
  • Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, regent of Saudi Arabia since 1995 and king since 2005.
  • Abdullah II, king of Jordan since 1999
  • Abdullah I, Emir of Transjordan (1921–1946) and King of Transjordan (1946–1951)
 bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Hassan Al Husseini and his wife Soheir Al Idrisi, were flown to the Eastern Province after Mrs Al Idrisi broke her leg during a trip to attend a wedding.

"My wife broke her right thigh femur femur (fē`mər): see leg.  on June 27 and had two emergency operations during the past 20 days," Mr Al Husseini told the GDN GDN Garden (postal suffix)

"We could have been stuck in Athens for weeks. God bless King Abdullah who approved our evacuation."

The Saudi couple, who have lived in Bahrain since 1992, have three children who graduated from Bahrain School Bahrain School is an international school located in Juffair, Bahrain following the American curriculum. "We communicated with our children in Chicago, Dhahran, and Washington, but they could not help us," Mr Al Husseini said.

"Finally, my wife's sister in Jeddah spoke with one of King Abdullah's daughters, who notified her father in Morocco where he was preparing for the forum of world religions in Madrid."

The king immediately approved orders to evacuate the couple to any place needed for medical care, Mr Al Husseini said.

"My wife asked to go home and to the Saudi Aramco Hospital, in Dhahran, and in three days her wish came true," he added.

Both Mr Al Husseini and his wife had worked for Aramco and keep a second home in Khobar, where Ms Al Idrisi will be recovering.

They had flown to Athens on June 25 for a wedding, but flying back on a commercial flight was proving risky and painful so soon after the operations.

Captain Ayman Al Sharif, who flew one of the G-IV military Medevac jets based in Riyadh, said: "We used to fly patients out of Saudi Arabia to London and the US.

"Now we get more requests to fly patients into the kingdom."

The Saudi couple have been active in Bahrain both in educational and charitable activities.

She has also been an active fundraiser for various women's societies and been involved in helping the handicapped.
