Sussex claimed an overall lead of 317 after skittling out Middlesex for just 116 in their Frizzell County Championship Division One clash at Lord's.

The home side resumed on 79 for four but never looked like getting close to Sussex's first innings score of 239.

The wickets continued to fall, a total of 15 in the day, as Sussex reached 194 for nine at the close of play.

Gloucestershire reached 61 for one in reply by lunch as Phil Weston was snapped up by Mark Powell off Monty Panesar for 13, and the remaining two sessions were washed out.

The morning session was washed out at Sophia Gardens but Hampshire piled on the runs when play resumed after lunch, improving from 381 for five overnight to 531 for 7 declared.

Glamorgan had reached 128 for two at the close.
