County parks given $6 million for Wilma cleanup.

 7,000 trees and partially restore parks damaged by Hurricane Wilma Hurricane Wilma was the most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin. Exceeding the 21 storms of the 1933 season, Wilma was the twenty-second storm (including the subtropical storm discovered in reanalysis), thirteenth hurricane, sixth major hurricane, and fourth  that swept through the region on Oct. 24, 2005.

The plan will plant trees in 14 county parks, but about half the funds--$3.55 million--allotted for Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach Deerfield Beach, town (1990 pop. 46,325), Broward co., SE Fla., on the Atlantic coast; inc. 1925. The development of high-technology industry and commerce expanded the town and more than doubled its population between 1970 and 1990. , which was leveled by the storm. The funds will put 3,750 trees back in the park.

The county says that the effort will only replace about three percent of all park trees damaged in the storm, but more trees planted in a subsequent phase is expected at a later date.
