, the popular Locke Park Secretary, dominated the Yorkshire County semi-finals when he qualified in three of the four main competitions.

Middlesbrough's Vinny O'Neill also had a successful week; his only defeat was in the Pairs competition.

In the Singles semi-finals Jones had a 21-19 win over Tony Longfield (Selby).

Jones, Thomas and Dennis Shaw made it a hat-trick with a 17-12 win over Nafferton in the Triples.

In the final they will play Vinny O'Neill, Vince O'Neill and Dennis Chapman (Middlesbrough) who beat Driffield 22-13.

Tommy Addison (Smiths Dock) was beaten in the Fours semi-final but qualified for the Two Bowl Singles final with a 21-20 win over Mark Goodfellow (Hull).

The County Finals will be played at Driffield on Sunday, July 19.

The Tykes only winning rink was skipped by Steve Slaughter (Middlesbrough) who had a 17-10 win over Tony Macey. The score was Yorkshire 85 (2pts) Durham 134 (20pts).

This was the worst possible preparation for the crucial Middleton Cup Game against Lancashire on July 4, a game they must win to progress in the competition.

Ian Daniell, E Race, C Davies and T Keay) were best for Smiths Dock with a 26-12 win over Neil Cummings.

The final score was Marske A 71 Smiths Dock 84.

* Cleveland County had games against Derbyshire in both the Adams Trophy and the Newton Trophy last weekend.

* Northumberland are the current leaders of the northern division with 46 points from four games.

Durham and Humberside have the same number of points (40) as Cleveland but the both have a game in hand.

The Newton Trophy team is out of the running for honours but they recorded their first win of the season against Derbyshire.

Derek Hunter (K Blackburn and D Mallaby) won 45-23 and Jonathon Bowes (G Allen and A Kilburn) won 37-19, the overall score was Cleveland 192 (18pts) Derbyshire 163 (4pts)..
