The county's public works shops - along with sheriff's search and rescue, marine patrol and other functions - already dominate the west side of Delta, across from the Eugene Home Depot The Home Depot (NYSE: HD) is an American retailer of home improvement and construction products and services.

The new purchase adds 4.74 acres and nearly 40,000 square feet of warehouse and office space that the county's Delta Highway complex eventually will be able to use.

However, Qwest will continue to lease the space for the next year, with an option to extend the lease for a year after that, Snowden said.

The county's public works department bought the property from Reliance Figueroa Associates, a New York New York, state, United States

The transaction has been complicated by Reliance Figueroa's bankruptcy, Snowden said.

According to county records of the purchase, the Lane County Board of Commissioners first authorized public works officials to negotiate with Reliance Figueroa in December 2001. The $1.9 million price was authorized last August, but it still took another nine months to complete the deal.
